What are the pitfalls of DAP/MOP granulation?
The most easily underestimated risk in DAP/MOP granulation lies not in the formulation calculations, but in the fact that the two raw materials behave independently after entering the granulator. DAP and MOP have opposite solubility and thermal effects: DAP has high solubility in acidic environments and reacts exothermically with ammonia, while MOP absorbs heat upon dissolution. High-MOP formulations often lower the bed temperature and weaken viscosity, resulting in a much narrower pelleting window compared to pure DAP or low-potassium formulations. Blending is not simply "mixing two powders together," but rather finding common ground across temperature, pH, and moisture levels.
